Ephydatia fluviatilis Gemmula of Ephydatia fluviatilis. Most freshwater sponges produce Gemmulae, globular bodies containing totipotent cells protected by a shell of the biopolymer spongin in order to survive unfavorable living conditions. Scale bar indicates 100 µm.
The specimen was gathered in the Historical Eider Canal Altenholz-Rathmannsdorf (Schleswig-Holstein, Germany). Sampling date 4/2018. The image was built up using several photomicrographic frames with manual stacking technique. Images were taken using Zeiss Axioskop with Olympus OM-D M5 MKII.

Gemmula von Ephydatia fluviatilis. Die meisten Süßwasserschwämme produzieren Gemmulae, kugelförmige Körper, die totipotente Zellen enthalten, die durch eine Hülle des Biopolymer-Spongins geschützt sind, die helfen, ungünstige Lebensbedingungen zu überleben. Der Messbalken markiert eine Länge von 100 µm.
Die Probe wurde im Alten Eiderkanal Altenholz-Rathmannsdorf (nahe Kiel) gesammelt. Datum der Aufsammlung: 4/2018. Mikrotechnik: Zeiss Axioplan, Kamera: Olympus OM-D M5 MKII.
